I am excited to share my latest portrait painting of Derrick Adams, a key addition to my Black Male Professor Series, completed on December 23, 2024. This piece is inspired by Fauvism, featuring bold colors and emotive brushwork, aiming to capture both Derrick's likeness and the energy he brings as an educator and artist!
As the final work of my 2024 artistic journey, this portrait reflects my exploration of identity and symbolic representation in higher education. I focused on the details to resonate with Derrick's essence while also highlighting symbolic references related to his associations.
I’m particularly proud of the background, which incorporates elements of geometric abstraction that create depth and contrast with the portrait's softer lines. This dynamic interplay invites viewers to engage intellectually and emotionally.
As I move forward, I am excited to continue this portrait series. Each piece not only represents the individuals featured but also contributes to the broader conversation about Black male representation in visual arts and art education at the higher education level as professors and leaders within these spaces.
