Judges Choose Ligel Lambert's Artwork to Represent the 2006 Jacksonville Jazz Festival

In 2005, I completed a painting titled "Great Sounds," a work that captured the vibrant energy and improvisational essence of jazz music. The painting was inspired by my deep appreciation for the dynamic interplay of rhythm, melody, and emotion that defines the genre. Believing it to be a perfect tribute to the spirit of jazz, I submitted the piece to the City of Jacksonville’s Special Events Department as part of their call for artwork to represent the 2006 Jacksonville Jazz Festival.

The competition was fierce, with over 40 artists submitting their creations, each offering their unique interpretation of what jazz represents. After a rigorous selection process, my work was chosen as the official artwork for the festival. This extraordinary honor not only celebrated my artistic vision but also granted me the opportunity to contribute to a cultural event that brings together music lovers, artists, and the community at large. Becoming the selected artist for such a prestigious festival remains one of the most meaningful milestones of my career, underscoring my commitment to creating art that resonates deeply with people and captures the essence of the world around us.

During my undergraduate years at Armstrong Atlantic State University—now known as Georgia Southern University Armstrong Campus in Savannah—I had the privilege of being featured in The Inkwell, the university's official student newspaper since 1935. The article celebrated my selection for a remarkable honor, highlighting a memorable milestone in my academic/ artistic journey. Here is a direct link to the article on page 7 (Week of April 13, 2006, Volume 74 Issue 12.)
