Honoring Booker Stephen Carpenter II – Portrait #15 of 25 in My Celebratory Series

Greetings, all,

I’m excited to announce that my portrait painting of distinguished artist, educator, and Dean, Professor Booker Stephen Carpenter II, was completed on September 9, 2025.

This portrait is number 15 of 25 in my ongoing Black Male Artist Professor series—a collection dedicated to celebrating the vision, creativity, and impact of influential Black artists and educators. This series honors those who have shaped visual culture, mentored generations of emerging artists, and contributed to the broader artistic community.

Dr. Booker Stephen Carpenter II is an interdisciplinary artist and educator whose work spans ceramics, performance, and visual culture. One of his notable projects is Double Water Fountains, an ongoing participatory installation inspired by Elliot Erwitt’s 1950 photograph “Segregated Water Fountain.” Through this work, Carpenter invites viewers to engage with the historical and social implications of racial segregation, using the motif of water fountains to prompt reflection and dialogue.

As Dean and mentor, Carpenter has guided countless students, inspiring the next generation of artists with both his artistic excellence and dedication to education.
