I’m honored to share that the painting of David C. Driskell, portrait #20 of 25 in my Black Male Artist Professor series, a 36” × 48” work, has been completed.

To recap, the background is complete using Casein, India ink, paper, cloth, and Gold Leaf on premier wooden panel, incorporating symbolic references and geometric abstraction. The color palette reflects the institutions where Driskell earned his degrees and the university where he taught later in life. This portrait also references “Joy Cometh in the Morning,” reflecting hope, resilience, and Driskell’s thoughts on the celebration of the Black male artist in the art studio.

I used acrylic paint on top of the materials listed above as I finalize this painting.
